Alpha Beta Sigma enters the 2026–2028 Sorority Years with a disciplined commitment to Excellence, with Impact as we continue our work within the City of Portsmouth, Virginia. This administration is focused on strengthening chapter operations, enhancing the member experience, and ensuring that our service efforts remain aligned with the mission and standards of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc.
Our membership focus of Appreciation, Bonding, and Service serves as the foundation for how we engage and lead. We intentionally recognize the contributions of every Soror and affiliate, cultivate meaningful opportunities for connection, and foster a chapter environment grounded in professionalism, accountability, and sisterhood.
Alpha Beta Sigma proudly executes the five national programs of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc.: Project Cradle Care, Operation Big Book Bag, Women’s Wellness, Youth Symposium, and SWIM 1922. These programs help us address critical needs in Portsmouth through structured, mission‑driven service in maternal health, youth development, education, wellness, and water safety.
In addition to our national programs, Alpha Beta Sigma remains committed to advancing key service initiatives, including Social Action, St. Jude, and our scholarship efforts supporting students within the City of Portsmouth. These initiatives reflect our dedication to sustained, measurable community impact and our responsibility to serve consistently and with purpose.
Throughout this biennium, our priorities include strengthening administrative processes, enhancing communication, and developing leadership capacity across all membership levels. We are committed to ensuring that every program, initiative, and engagement reflects excellence, intentionality, and alignment with the values of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc.

Our Mission
“It is the mission of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority to enhance the quality of life for women and their families in the U.S. and globally through community service.
Our goal is to achieve greater progress in the areas of education, healthcare, and leadership development. Our members, affiliates, staff and community partners work to create and support initiatives that align with our vision."
